Admissions Requirements for the PhD in Speech-Language Sciences and Disorders

Thank you for your interest in the PhD program in Speech-Language-Sciences and Disorders at Adelphi University.  The department is committed to addressing the long-standing shortage of doctoral recipients in our field. 

To assist you in your decision about whether to pursue a PhD, we encourage you (if you have not already done so) to review the information compiled by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association on the nature of doctoral education:

The PhD program in Speech-Language-Sciences and Disorders accepts applications for fall admissions only.

The application deadline is 15 January.

Checklist of required documents for application to the PhD Program:

One essay (1000 words maximum) that addresses the following points:
  • Substantive areas of research interest
  • How your educational background and professional experiences prepare you for your intended specialization
  • Career plans, including how obtaining a PhD supports those goals
Three letters of recommendation that, among other things, address your academic or research abilities
A writing sample that demonstrates your academic or scholarly writing
An up-to-date CV
Official transcripts from all previous higher education programs attended
Completed application form
